Depends on the problems :). Its quite easy to solve around ten ad -hoc problems in a single day.

OOh, It's a great performance.
Some of my frined solved 24 problems in a day. And In a week, they solved around 125 problems. All of those problem are not so easy as simulation or Adhoc. There are also some backtracking, dp, graph (network flow and bipartile machting). Are you surprised ?

Sometimes coding a Bipartite Matching or DP or Max Flow or ... is easier than simulation problems.

You may ask your friend to try to solve World Finals 2003 problemset and see how long it will take for him to solve the whole problemset. The problemset is mostly implementation based (rather than algorithm based), and all of them are solvable by a average contestant, like me, but not in a 5 hour contest time, or not even a day. But some team solved 9 problems during contest time. This might surprise me.

Per Austrin solved all of the problemset of Next Generation Contest III during contest time. How long will it take for your friend to solve them? This might surprise me.

Please never give up. ^_^
For the first time, I felt frustrated because always got AC after several WA or CE.

Keep going :D

Oh, I forgot to answer the topic question. Beacuse I'm still beginner programmer, my record is 4/day.

That's not really as bad as you think. I got some 20+ compile errors and a few WAs before I got my first accepted solution (I used to code in Java).

Oh, wow! Maybe he was fixing PEs? But still...

I think Simon Lo had some amazing streaks - I would be solving 3-4 problems and see him just submitting them in order - when I checked his page there were usually 20-30 red ones. (he "slowed down" a bit recently)
